Pass the CURB Act!

When our neighbors are attacked by ICE, like Oscar Belgal was on October 8, we must be able to come together in protest without fear that violent tactics will be used against us.

The CURB Act (Communities United to Reject Brutality, Intro 0796) would prohibit the deployment of the Strategic Response Group (SRG) to exercises of first amendment rights and ban the use of dangerous tactics including kettling, tear gas, pepper spray, and sound magnification.

Email your Council Member and let them know you are a supporter of the CURB Act and call on them to push to move this bill to a hearing so that it can be voted on.

Last night, New Yorkers gathered to protest ICE after agents shot, wounded, and abducted Oscar Belgal. Protestors report that they were brutalized by the NYPD as they stood in solidarity with their communities.

These events show the importance of securing the right to protest in safety as the federal government expands ICE operations across the country. When our neighbors are attacked by ICE, like Mr. Belgal was yesterday, New Yorkers must be able to come together in solidarity without fear that violent and dangerous tactics like kettling, tear gas, pepper spray, and sound magnification will be used against them.

As your constituent, I strongly support the CURB Act (Intro 0796), which would prohibit the deployment of the Strategic Response Group (SRG) to exercises of first amendment rights.

I urge you to do all in your power to move this bill to a hearing in the Committee on Public Safety and to move us one step closer to a city where we can protest in safety.
